Three Pines Season 2

Reason: Sony & Prime Video all wanted to bring the show back but were unable to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.

The mystery series Three Pines unfortunately will not be returning for a second season on Prime Video after the streaming service opted to cancel the show following its debut run.

Starring Alfred Molina, Three Pines was based on Louise Penny’s popular novels about Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and premiered on December 2, 2022. The first season consisted of four two-part murder cases set in the Canadian village of Three Pines.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television’s Left Bank Pictures, the show aired exclusively on Prime Video in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Australia, and other select countries. Despite hopes for more cozy small-town mysteries, Prime Video made the decision not to renew Three Pines beyond the inaugural eight episodes.

Devoted fans of the Gamache book series and viewers who discovered the show’s charms are disappointed to see Three Pines conclude so soon. The move has sparked questions about why Prime Video was not satisfied enough with the viewing metrics or engagement to grant a second season. For now, the charming world of Three Pines will live on solely within Louise Penny’s pages.

Amazon Prime Video Canceled Three Pines Season 2

Variety reports that Amazon has canceled the mystery series “Three Pines” after just one season. But the amazon does not give a justification for this. According to Variety, the streaming service has chosen against renewing the Alfred Molina-starring series for a second season. The final episode of the show’s first season aired on December 23 after eight episodes.

A Prime spokeswoman told Variety via email, “We are proud of the work done on the series and the opportunity to work with great partners.”

The first season featured four book-based murder mysteries. The cases were each aired twice. Gamache (Molina) was left in a perilous predicament at the end of the last episode, and his team was scrambling to find him.

Former showrunner and Season 1 exitee Emilia di Girolamo has also been keeping fans in the loop on Instagram.

“I appreciate the outpouring of support for ‘Three Pines.’ “I’m sad for the wonderful cast, crew, and fans,” she added, acknowledging the show’s cancellation’s impact on the community at large.

I wasn’t a part of the renewal talks, but I’ve heard that Left Bank, Sony, and Prime Video all wanted to bring the show back but couldn’t agree on terms.

One of the show’s key characters, played by Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, has also addressed the cancellation. Because the program meant so much to so many people, she found it “difficult” to accept, but she is nonetheless proud of the show’s achievements and grateful for the opportunity to have participated in making them a reality.

For her, “it has been difficult to process the news that there will be no second season of Three Pines on Prime Video,” she explained. I appreciate all of the viewers and listeners. Knowing that this show has such a huge following throughout the world meant the world to me. I never imagined that as an Indigenous actor I would get to play the lead female role on a number one show. Big, big, big. This presentation proved that people of all backgrounds are hungry for Indigenous content, proving the importance of our tales.

Is There Any Hope That We Can See Another Season Of Three Pines?

Despite its cancellation by Prime Video, fans are rallying in hopes of reviving the mystery series Three Pines for a second season. A petition urging Amazon to reverse the decision has collected close to 800 signatures so far, albeit short of its 1,000 signature goal.

Though the campaign has less traction than some previous TV-saving efforts on the platform, author Louise Penny provided reason for optimism in a Facebook post. She shared that according to her sources, Three Pines was the number one show on Prime Video in several international markets. This success made the swift cancellation all the more shocking to Penny.

In her post, Penny even offered fans the email address of an Amazon Prime Video executive to appeal the renewal denial directly. With the author actively encouraging viewers to demand more Three Pines, perhaps a second season is not entirely ruled out yet. Fans are hopeful that their passionate response combined with the show’s promising international viewership could sway Amazon to greenlight another chapter in the small-town mystery series.
